Billy's Farm of Hopes & Dreams
A sanctuary for special needs children, adults, and the caregivers who love them.
Born from a father’s journey through pain, resilience, and hope — this farm will be a place to breathe, heal, and belong.
The Story Behind The Farm
Billy’s Farm of Hopes and Dreams was not born from a business plan.
It was born from 23 years of caregiving. My son Billy lives with cerebral palsy. For more than two decades, I have cared for him around the clock. The love is immeasurable. The exhaustion is real. The isolation is quiet but constant.Caregiving is often described as inspiring. What is rarely spoken about is the relentlessness. The early mornings. The emotional vigilance. The careful walking so routines are not disrupted. The feeling of being needed every minute of every day.For some families, community programs offer respite. For others, like ours, they can become more work. Some children and adults still need you right beside them. What looks like support from the outside can feel like survival from within. There were years when the weight nearly broke me. Depression. Alcohol. Darkness I rarely spoke about. I searched for peace in places that only numbed the pain. But pain has a strange way of shaping purpose. In the vast silence of the Tankwa Karoo during The Munga in South Africa, after being taken in by farmers during a violent storm, something shifted. Their quiet kindness in the middle of nowhere reminded me what humanity looks like at its best.No spotlight. No conditions. Just care.In that stillness, clarity came. This farm would exist for families like ours.
For caregivers running on empty.
For children and adults who do not fit the mold.
For those who need a place to simply be.Billy’s Farm is not a zoo. It is not a loud event center. It is a sanctuary.Small groups of caregivers sharing coffee and companionship.
Special needs adults given simple, purposeful work that builds dignity, not pressure.
Quiet spaces where someone can sit under a tree with a donkey and finally exhale. You can come alone.
You can sit.
You can cry.
You can say nothing at all. When you walk back toward the barn, you will not be judged or fixed. You will be seen. And you will know that you are not alone.Once you come through the gates, you are family. And those gates will always be open.Billy’s Farm of Hopes and Dreams is my promise to give back more than I have ever received.Because those who know the deepest pain often feel the deepest call to serve. And I now understand that my purpose is greater than me.This is not charity.
This is shared humanity.

Pre-Publications Reviews
“There’s a vein of searing honesty running all the way through this book that carries you into The Munga and far beyond it. This is not just about a race—it’s about what is left of you when everything else has been stripped away. It feels real, human, and deeply moving.”“I read it in 24 hours because it completely pulled me in and captivated me. By the end, I felt remarkably endeared to Simon—and I’ve got a strong sense you will too.”“There is hope and inspiration here, but not in a polished or performative way—it feels earned. That’s what makes this story so powerful.”Catherine WilliamsonHost of Gobsmacked! PodcastExecutive Coach & Author------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Simon, your story stayed with me long after I put the pages down.
What struck me most is not the race, the distance, or even the sheer physical endurance, it’s your honesty. The way you open up about the weight you’ve carried, the struggles behind the scenes, and the courage it took to face yourself so fully is incredibly powerful. There is something deeply human in your journey, and it’s impossible not to feel it as you read. The moments that moved me most were not the big milestones, but the quiet ones, the kindness of strangers, the love for Billy, the resilience you’ve built through years of showing up when it would have been easier not to. Those are the things that define this book. Those are the things that define you.“You’ve already won” is more than just a line in your story, it’s a truth that so many of us need to hear. You’ve captured something rare: a reminder that worth isn’t found in achievement, but in who we become through the journey.I feel incredibly honoured to have read this, and even more so to know the heart behind it. This book will touch people in ways you may never fully see, but I have no doubt it will change lives. With admiration and gratitude,Christine — whose kindness in the storm reminded me what humanity truly looks like------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------"You’ve Already Won" by author Simon Dyson is a raw and authentic journey that truly resonates from the very first page. The honesty and transparency woven throughout each chapter make it not only impactful, but memorable for anyone who reads it.
This book is sure to inspire and encourage readers to reflect on their own journey. It is a living proof story of finding a life of significance by serving others. I highly recommend this book.Mark WhitacreVice President, Culture & CareCoca-Cola Consolidated------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------You've Already Won by Simon Dyson is not a race book. It's the unflinching story of a man who spent decades chasing worth through endurance events, career success, and material achievement, only to find the void growing louder.Set against the brutal backdrop of the Munga, a 1,150-kilometer ultra-endurance race across the South African desert, Dyson strips away every layer of pretense until only truth remains. His honesty about addiction, caregiving for a son with cerebral palsy, and the slow collapse of his marriage is both uncomfortable and deeply human. The moment a stranger looks him in the eye and says "You've already won" is simple on the surface, but Dyson earns it on every preceding page. For any leader who has confused suffering with strength or achievement with worth, this book is a quiet gut punch. Read it.Matt DohertyExecutive CoachDoherty Coaching------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Simon’s book is one of those rare works that doesn’t just tell a story — it pulls you into it. I felt the emotion from the very first page, and I’ll be honest: I teared up more than once. His honesty, his struggle, his endurance — it all hits with a force that stays with you long after you’ve finished reading. As an Ironman athlete, I know what it means to push through pain, to keep going when everything in you wants to quit. Simon captures that same grit — the kind forged in dark moments, quiet battles, and the relentless choice to continue. You can feel that truth in every chapter.
Having also photographed Simon, I had the privilege of seeing the strength behind the story — the real human who lived every word. This book isn’t just written. It’s earned. If you’ve ever fought for something, pushed through a breaking point, or risen from the ashes of one, this book will meet you exactly where you are.Theresa Van AlsburgLumiere and Lens Photography------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------“This book gave me chills from the very first pages. Simon doesn’t just tell his story, he invites you into the depths of his soul. You feel the weight he carried as a father, caregiver, provider, and man searching for worth in endurance, achievement, and suffering. You feel his unraveling. And, you feel the breathtaking release that comes when he finally realizes he no longer has to earn his value. You’ve Already Won is raw, emotionally gripping, and deeply healing —a story that will stay with you long after the final page.”Dionne Nicholls-Germain

Forbes-Featured Author of The 90-Day Conquering Unforgiveness Journal------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------I wanted to commend this book to other readers… I blasted through it in about two or three days.
I must declare a vested interest… I knew Simon back in the day… We used to run around together as part of a wider group during the late 1990s around Birmingham / Coventry (Cov) in the UK.
Since that period, we both lost our way and found ourselves in recovery programs.
Reading Simon’s memoir, I’m struck by his courage, self honesty, bravery and ultimately his parental love for Billy and his family. In many ways the book is about a father’s love for his son … but to me it’s more than that … it’s how we will all face struggles during our lives and how and where we find the answers..
It is clear to me the extensive work Simon has done on himself… naturally there is a human tendency to distract ourselves and try and self-medicate through drink , drugs or work or money or training or physical pursuits. The real Solution is to be able to slow down and find consistent discipline and doing the internal work to find who you really are…that’s where the Faith comes that we will be okay.I think whether you’re an Alcohoilc / Addict or just someone trying to cope with Life's "hits" everyone will be able to identify with Simon’s unbridled honesty...this book will resonate with men and women of all ages… As with many of us , it took Simon a while and a lot of pain to finally realise that he was always more than enough… When I spoke to him the other day, I told him that he has this superpower which he has earned from doing the Hard yards in Recovery… With his many friends and God by his side, you can bet that simon will always reach his goal and destination…To be fair , its "Not bad for a kid from Cov …. “Marty Gallagher
